Publishing blog articles on your website
Write an article in Marketli, have an owner or admin approve and publish it, and it appears on your own website within seconds. How drafts, approval, addresses and unpublishing work.
Your website's blog is written inside Marketli. Open Website from the left navigation and click Blog in the header. Every article you see there belongs to your own website; nothing is shared with other businesses.
Who can do what
Any staff member of your business can write and edit drafts, and discard a draft nobody wants. Only an owner or admin can approve a draft, publish it, unpublish it, or retry a publish that did not land. If you are not an owner or admin, Approve, Publish and Unpublish are shown but disabled with a note saying so, and Try again is not offered.
Writing a draft
Click New article. You need a title and the article itself; everything else is optional but worth filling in:
- Address is the end of the article's web address, made from the title. Change it if you like while the article is a draft. Once an article is published its address is locked, because search engines and other sites may already link to it.
- Category groups articles on your website. A category page appears automatically when at least one published article carries it.
- Cover image shows at the top of the article and when the article is shared. Describe it in the box beside it for people who cannot see it.
- Excerpt is the short summary shown in article lists. If you leave it empty, Marketli uses the start of the article.
- SEO title and SEO description are what search engines show. The description should be between 50 and 200 characters.
Inside the article, use Heading 2 and Heading 3 for sections; the title is the main heading. Links must start with https. Em dashes are not allowed anywhere in an article; use a comma, colon or full stop instead. The editor tells you about any of these as you type, and Marketli checks them again when you save.
Click Save draft as often as you like. Approve and Publish wait until the draft is saved. If a colleague saved the same draft after you opened it, your save is refused and you are offered a Reload; what you typed stays on screen until you choose to reload, so nobody's work is overwritten silently.
Approving and publishing
An owner or admin reviews the draft and clicks Approve. Approval is the sign-off that the article is ready to appear on your website; it does not publish anything by itself. Publish puts the approved article live.
Publishing usually takes a few seconds. While it happens the article shows Publishing, then Live with a link to the page on your website. Marketli only says Live once it has checked that your website is serving the new article.
If Marketli could not confirm the change, the article shows what went wrong and a Try again button. The most common reason is that your website needs a fresh deploy before it can refresh instantly; until then, changes still appear within the hour.
Changing a published article
Open the article and click New draft. Your changes are saved as a draft alongside the live article, which stays exactly as it was until the new draft is approved and published. The list shows Live, changes pending while a draft is open. A draft nobody wants can be discarded by any staff member.
Unpublishing
An owner or admin can Unpublish a live article. Its address on your website stops working and it disappears from the blog list and category pages, again within seconds. Marketli shows Unpublished once it has checked that the page is gone, and says so plainly if the page is still being served. The article and its text stay in Marketli; the last published version stays approved, so it can be published again with one click, or edited as a new draft first.
Where the blog lives
Until your own domain is connected, your website answers on its Marketli address, and that is where the View link goes. When your domain goes live, the blog moves with it and the addresses of your articles stay the same.
