    Sending a gift card

Send a contact a digital gift card from their page: who can send one, what it costs, the tax invoice, the limits, and what the Gifts list shows.

You can thank a client with a digital gift card straight from their contact page. They get an email with the card, branded with your business. The cost goes on your company card.

    Who can send one

Anyone on your team can send a gift card, once gift cards are switched on for your business. Your business also needs the Marketing or CRM module.

When it is available you will see Send gift card in the actions at the top of a contact's page. The button is greyed out when:

    • the contact has no email address (add one first), or
    • the contact is archived (restore them first).

You can't send a gift card to someone on your own team. Your company owners and admins are notified each time a gift is sent.

    Sending a gift

    1. Open the contact from Contacts or Clients.
    2. Click Send gift card.
    3. Pick a brand. Use the search box to find one quickly. Let them choose appears when it is available: the recipient picks the brand themselves.
    4. Pick an amount. Some cards come in set amounts, shown as buttons. Others let you type any amount between the card's minimum and maximum.
    5. Add a note if you like. It can be up to 500 characters.
    6. Click Review gift and check the figures, then click Send with the total shown on the button.

    What it costs

You pay the face value of the gift card plus an 8% service fee + GST. GST applies to the service fee only.

For example, an A$50 gift card costs:

    LineAmount
    Gift cardA$50.00
    8% service feeA$4.00
    GST on the feeA$0.40
    TotalA$54.40

The review step always shows the exact figures for your gift before anything is charged. The total is charged to your company card on file.

    Your tax invoice

A tax invoice will be emailed to your account's billing email for every gift. It lists the gift card and the service fee as separate lines, with GST shown on the fee.

If a gift can't be issued after your card is charged, the full amount is refunded and you are emailed a credit note.

    Limits

    Each business has two limits:

    • Per gift: A$200 by default.
    • Per day: A$1,000 by default, across your whole team. The day runs on Sydney time.

The limits count the gift card's value, not the fee. The dialog shows how much is left for today, and amounts over either limit can't be picked.

    What the recipient gets

The recipient gets an email with their gift card and your note. If you have connected your inbox, it comes from you; otherwise it comes from Marketli on your behalf. Gift emails are sent even if the contact has not opted into marketing emails, because a gift is a one-off message, not marketing.

    The Gifts list

Every gift sent to a contact shows in the Gifts list on their page, with the brand, amount, date, who sent it and its status:

    StatusWhat it means
ProcessingThe payment is still being confirmed. It usually settles within a few minutes, and the list updates on its own. Don't send the gift again.
SentThe gift card was issued and emailed.
Email not sentThe gift card was issued but the email didn't go out. Use Resend email.
Payment failedThe payment didn't go through, for example because the card was declined or the price changed. Nothing was charged or sent.
RefundedThe gift card provider declined the order and the full amount was refunded.
Refund pendingThe gift card provider declined the order after your card was charged, and the refund hasn't gone through yet. We are alerted automatically and will refund it. Don't send the gift again.

Resend email sends the gift email to the recipient again. It goes to the email address the gift was first sent to, shown next to the button, even if you have since changed the contact's email. It appears for the person who sent the gift and for company admins. The gift card link itself is never shown in Marketli: only the recipient receives it.

    If something goes wrong

    • Ask your admin to update the company card: the card was declined or there is no card on file. Owners and admins manage the card under Company → Billing, in a browser. See Billing and your plan.
    • No company card on file: gift cards are charged to your business's default card in Billing, not a card saved only for credit top-ups. An owner or admin can save one.
    • Billing needs a check: Marketli needs to look at your billing details before gift cards can be charged. An owner or admin should contact support.
    • Billing address needed: your business needs a billing address before we can issue a tax invoice. An owner or admin can add it in Billing.
    • Billing account balance: your company's billing account has a credit or debit balance. Contact support to clear it before sending a gift. Nothing was charged.
    • We couldn't confirm this gift: the connection dropped before we heard back. Don't start a new gift. Check the Gifts list on the contact, or click Check again. Check again checks on your original send rather than starting a new one. If you close the dialog or reload the page, it reopens on Check again for that contact until we know the result. If gift cards have been switched off for your business in the meantime, you'll see We still can't confirm this gift with a Dismiss button: check the Gifts list on the contact before sending another.
