Email campaign recipients and sending limits

Choose who gets an email campaign, select everyone with a tag in one go, and understand how many emails your business can send in a day.

An email campaign goes to the contacts you choose. This article covers choosing them, and the limit on how many campaign emails your business can send.

    Choosing recipients

In the campaign editor, select Recipients. The list shows every contact you have access to, up to 10,000. If your business has more than that, a notice at the top of the list says how many are loaded, and the rest cannot be chosen from it. Contact Marketli support if you need to email a list that large.

    • Search by name or email address.
    • Tick people one at a time, or use Select all shown to tick everyone in the list you are looking at.
    • Each person carries a label: Opted in, Opted out, Suppressed or No email. Only people marked Opted in can be ticked.

Suppressed means the address unsubscribed, bounced or complained in the past. No email means the contact has no email address saved.

    Selecting everyone with a tag

Your tags appear above the list, largest first, with the number of contacts on each one.

    1. Select a tag. The list narrows to everyone with that tag.
    2. The line under the tags tells you how many people have the tag and how many of them can be emailed.
    3. Choose Select to tick everyone who can be emailed.

Select more than one tag to see people who have any of them.

If you have many tags, the list shows two rows. The link at the end of the second row, which reads See all followed by the number of tags you have, shows the rest. Show fewer tucks them away again. A tag you have selected always stays in view.

The number on a tag is everyone with that tag, including people who cannot be emailed. That is why it can be higher than the number you end up selecting.

How many emails you can send

Every business has a limit on campaign emails in any 24 hours.

LevelCampaign emails in any 24 hours
    New500
    Established5,000
    Trusted20,000

Every business starts on New. A higher level is granted by Marketli, one business at a time. It does not change by itself. To ask for one, contact Marketli support and tell us roughly how many people you plan to email.

Three things to know about the limit:

    • It is a rolling 24 hours, not a calendar day. An email stops counting 24 hours after it was queued.
    • One campaign can use the whole limit. There is no separate limit per campaign.
    • Only campaigns count. Emails you send to one person from a lead or workspace, and review requests, do not use any of it.

Seeing the limit before you send

When you select Send, the confirmation shows four numbers: your limit, how many you have used, how many this send is, and how many you will have left afterwards.

If the send is larger than what you have left, the confirmation says so and Send now is switched off. Nothing is sent. You can choose fewer people, or wait until earlier emails are more than 24 hours old.

The recipient list also warns you while you are choosing, as soon as you tick more people than you have left.

    People who are skipped

Some of the people you chose may not receive the email. They are skipped when:

    • they have opted out or unsubscribed
    • they have no email address
    • they share an email address with someone else on the list (that address gets one email, not two)

Skipped people do not count toward your limit. After sending, the message at the top of the screen tells you how many went out and how many were skipped.

    Sending the same campaign twice

A campaign is sent once. While it is still going out, and after it has gone, it cannot be sent again, to the same people or to anyone else. This stops people getting two copies if Send is pressed a second time.

To send it again, or to send it to a different selection, choose Use again on the Campaigns page. That makes a new draft with the same subject and content, which you send as a campaign of its own. Everyone you choose for the copy gets it, including anyone who received the original, so check who you have ticked. Email campaigns has more on Drafts, Sent and Use again.

If a send failed completely, and nothing went out, the campaign is still a draft and can be sent again.
