The community
Ask questions, share wins and read the help docs, all in one place inside Marketli.
The community is where Marketli professionals talk to each other. Open it from Support in the menu. It is for you and your team, never for your clients: a client account cannot see it, cannot search it and cannot post in it.
Support has six parts, shown as tabs at the top: Community, Programs, the Help docs, Events, Rooms, and Chat with Marketli, a private chat room between you and the Marketli team.
Programs
Programs are step-by-step courses from the Marketli team. Each one shows as a card with its progress. Open a program to see its lessons down the left and the lesson itself on the right, often with a short video. Choose Mark complete when you finish a lesson; your progress is saved as you go, so you can stop and pick up later.
Some programs are open to every professional. Others are for invited members only: those show a padlock, and you can ask the Marketli team for access. Programs work in a web browser on a computer, tablet or phone. They are not in the phone app yet.
Rooms
Each person on the Marketli team has their own video room. When a room shows Open now, choose Join to drop in, ask a question and hear other members' questions too. You join with your camera and microphone off and turn them on when you are ready. Everyone in the room can see and hear whoever has their camera or microphone on, so only share what you are happy for other members to see. Only the host can share their screen.
Rooms work on a computer, in a desktop browser. They are not available in the phone app. If your camera or microphone will not turn on, allow them in your browser's address bar. The host can close the room at any time, which ends the call for everyone.
Events
The Events tab lists the Marketli team's weekly webinars for the next four weeks, held on Zoom, Google Meet or Teams. Choose Register on a session to save your place. You get an email with a calendar invite straight away, and a reminder about an hour before it starts. The times are shown in your own timezone.
Once you are registered, Join opens the webinar and Add to calendar downloads it again if you need it. The join link is only for registered members. If you can no longer make it, choose Cancel registration and it comes off your calendar. If the Marketli team changes or cancels a session, you are emailed and your calendar is updated.
Chat with Marketli
Open Chat with Marketli to message the Marketli team directly. The room is yours alone: other professionals cannot see it, and neither can your clients. The Marketli support team can read everything in it, which is how any of us can pick up your question.
We reply during business hours, so it is not instant chat. When we reply, a number appears beside Support in the menu and on the chat tab, and opening the chat clears it. You can send text, photos and files. The room does not appear in your Conversations list; it lives here in Support.
What is in there
A post can be tagged with up to three topics. Select a topic in the left column to see only the posts tagged with it:
| Topic | What it is for |
|---|---|
| #announcement | What is new from the Marketli team. Only we can use it. |
| #introduction | Say hello: who you are, where you work and what you do. |
| #question | Anything you are stuck on. |
| #win | Deals closed, reviews landed, milestones hit. |
| #website | Your site, your domain, and everything pointing at it. |
| #leads | Capturing enquiries and staying on top of them. |
| #reviews | Asking for reviews, and sending work to each other. |
| #feature-request | What you want Marketli to do next. |
Posts appear in full, newest first, so you can read what is new without opening anything. Under each post you see its latest replies. Choose View all replies or Reply to open the whole conversation right there, and long posts fold behind Show more.
The help docs live in the community too, under Help docs in the left rail. They are the same guides as the public help centre, just inside the app so you do not lose your place.
Writing a post
Click the box at the top of Community and start typing. There is no title to fill in: your opening words are what people see first, so lead with the point. You can use bold, italic, lists, links and photos. Photos are uploaded from your computer rather than linked in from somewhere else, so they keep working when the other site changes. You can also paste a screenshot straight into the box, or drag a picture onto it. Large screenshots are made smaller for you, so they upload quickly.
When your post includes a link, the first link gets a preview card under the post a few seconds after you post it: the page's title, a short description and its picture. Only the first link gets a card. If you would rather not show it, choose the x on the card to remove it; it stays removed.
To tag a topic, type # and pick one from the list, or type it in full followed by a space, such as "#win ". You can also choose one from the row of topics under the box. Topics are optional: a post without one still appears in Community and in search. Be specific: "Domain still says not connected after 2 days" gets a useful answer faster than "Website help".
Replying and tagging
Anyone can reply, and you can like a post or a reply. Open a post's replies to write one. Typing @ in a reply offers the people already in that conversation, so tagging someone tells a person who is part of it rather than paging a stranger. Once posted, a tagged name shows in bold. While you write, pressing Backspace after a tag removes the last name first, so "@Sam Taylor" becomes "@Sam" and still tags the same person; press it again to remove the tag. The Marketli team can tag any professional, so you may be tagged in a conversation you have not joined yet. When a post from the team says @everyone, it has been sent to every professional. A reply you have started stays put if you close the conversation and open it again.
To answer a particular reply, choose Reply under it. Your answer sits indented under that reply, with its author already tagged, and they get an email saying you replied to their comment. Replying to one of those indented answers adds to the same group, the way Facebook comments work. When a group has more than two answers, choose View more replies to see the rest.
You can edit or delete anything you wrote. Deleting a post asks you to confirm first, because it removes every reply under it as well and cannot be undone. The Marketli team can pin a post, lock it, mark a reply as the answer, and remove anything that does not belong.
Each post also has its own page. Select the time under the author's name to open it, which is handy when you want to send someone a link.
Getting to know other members
Select someone's photo or name, on a post, a reply or in the column beside the posts, to see who they are: their business, their profession, any label from the Marketli team, and how many posts and replies they have written on Support. If their business is listed in the Marketli Directory, View in Directory opens their page there. It goes to their own page when they have made their profile public, and to their business's page otherwise.
The first time you visit, a card at the top of Community invites you to introduce yourself, and if you have no profile photo yet, to add one. Write an introduction opens a new post in Introductions. The card goes away once you have posted or replied, or when you close it.
Labels beside a name
Some people have a short label beside their name, such as Founder. The Marketli team sets these so you can tell at a glance who you are hearing from. You cannot set or change your own.
Who appears beside the posts
On a wide screen, a column beside the posts shows two groups. Marketli team is the people who answer for Marketli, with a link to chat with us. Active this month is the members who wrote a post or a reply in the last 30 days, newest first, up to 12 of them.
Writing a post or a reply puts you in Active this month for 30 days, with your name, photo and business. Nobody is listed just for having an account, and a post or reply you delete stops counting. On a phone or a smaller screen the column is hidden.
When Marketli posts something new
When the Marketli team publishes a post, a number appears beside Support in the menu. If a post is meant for one profession, only people in that profession get the number, though everyone can still read the post in Community. On a phone, a small dot also appears on the menu button, because Support sits inside the menu there. The number counts posts from the Marketli team from the last 14 days that you have not seen yet, conversations you have been tagged in, and any unread replies in your chat with us.
Opening Support clears it, and the posts that arrived since your last visit are marked New. If you were tagged, a box at the top of Community lists each conversation with a link, and the post carries a Tagged you marker. Posts from other members, and replies you are not tagged in, never add to the number.
Emails
You get one email when someone replies to your post or your reply, or tags you in a thread. Now and then the Marketli team also emails out one of its own posts, to everyone or to one profession, when it is something you should not miss. The community sends no push notifications.
To turn it off, go to Profile and switch off Email me about replies and tags under Community emails. Every community email also says how to turn it off, at the bottom.
Finding things
The search box at the top covers both posts and help articles, and shows them in two groups so you can tell an answer from a guide. Latest shows the newest posts first, Top the busiest conversations of the last 30 days, and pinned posts stay at the top of both. A new reply does not move an older post back to the top of Latest.
