Editor costs: the included allowance, and using your own key

Website editing is included with your plan up to a monthly allowance. What the allowance covers, what happens when it runs out, and the optional bring-your-own-key setup for heavy editors.

The website Editor is powered by Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI assistant, and it is included with your website plan. You do not need an AI account, an API key, or any setup: open the Editor and describe the change you want.

    The included monthly allowance

Each month your plan includes an editing allowance that comfortably covers a handful of everyday changes: new wording, updated details, a fresh blog post. Most edits use only a small slice of it, and every single edit is hard-capped at USD $3 of underlying AI cost, so no one change can ever run away.

If you use the whole allowance before the month ends, the Editor tells you plainly, with the real numbers, and offers a Request more button. Pressing it sends your request straight to Marketli and a person tops up your allowance, usually the same day. Nothing already published is affected, and the allowance resets at the start of each month.

Plans with more included editing are available; ask your Marketli contact.

Optional: bring your own Anthropic key

If you edit heavily and would rather pay Anthropic directly, with no monthly allowance at all, you can connect your own Anthropic API key. In the Editor, choose Use your own Anthropic key next to the model picker:

    1. Sign in at console.anthropic.com, or create an account. A personal account is fine.
    2. Add some credit to the account (Anthropic asks for this before it will run anything). $5 to $10 is plenty to start.
    3. Open API keys and create a new key. It starts with sk-ant-.
    4. While you are there, set a monthly spend limit in your Anthropic billing settings. It is the best guard rail and takes a minute.
    5. Paste the key into the Editor and press Save.

With your own key connected, edits bill to your Anthropic account with no markup and no Marketli allowance involved. A typical edit costs well under a dollar, and the $3 per-edit hard cap still applies. Your key is stored encrypted and never shown again anywhere in Marketli; only its last four digits appear. Only company owners and admins can see or change it.

Replacing or removing your own key

Once a key is connected you will see **Anthropic key **NNNN with Replace and Remove next to the model picker:

    • Replace swaps in a new key, for example after you rotate keys in the Anthropic console.
    • Remove disconnects it, and the Editor simply switches back to the allowance included with your plan.

Neither is allowed while an edit is running; finish or stop the edit first. You can also revoke the key from the Anthropic console at any time, without touching Marketli. That works immediately: the Editor will tell you the key stopped working the next time it tries to use it, and offer to take a replacement or switch back to the included allowance.

One honest caveat about transcripts on your own key

While you use your own key, the conversation history of your edits is stored by Anthropic in your account, and Marketli reads it back with your key. If your key stops working (revoked, or out of credit), whatever is on screen stays visible, but the transcript cannot be reloaded until the key is replaced or removed. If you remove the key, the transcripts of the editing sessions that ran on it become permanently unavailable in Marketli. Your published changes are not affected in any way; they are part of your website.

    If you use ChatGPT instead

The optional key above must be an Anthropic API key. A ChatGPT subscription is not an API key, and an OpenAI key does not work here either. If you prefer to edit your site through ChatGPT, that door is open too: ask your Marketli contact about the Codex connector, which is covered in getting started with your website.
