Editing your website from inside Marketli

The Editor tab is the quickest way to change your website. You type what you want in plain English, Marketli's assistant makes the change, runs your site's own checks, and brings you back a preview. Your live website does not change until you press Publish.

You do not need a GitHub account, a code editor, or anything installed. If you already work with ChatGPT's Codex connector or an assistant on your own computer, that still works exactly as before: see getting started with your website. The Editor is a third door to the same house, not a replacement.

Where it is

Look for Editor in the left menu on a computer, or in the bar along the bottom on a phone. It appears once Marketli has built and connected your website. If you cannot see it, your site is not connected yet, and your Marketli contact can tell you where it is up to.

Only company owners and admins can use the Editor, because it changes what the public sees.

Making a change

Describe it the way you would brief a person:

"Make the line under the home page headline warmer." "Add my new office address to the contact page." "Write a short blog post about fixed versus variable rates."

Then press Send. You will see the assistant working, step by step: reading your pages, making the edit, and running your site's checks. This usually takes a minute or two, and most of that is the checks. It is not stuck.

When it finishes you get a summary of what it changed, and a draft on the right of the screen.

The live preview: before you edit, and while it happens

The Live preview panel sits beside the conversation (on a phone, tap the arrow next to Live preview to open it). It is your actual website, running live.

You can start it before you ever start an edit. On a fresh Editor screen you get a Start preview button under Preview your site: press it and, after a few seconds of booting, your site appears exactly as it is right now. If your site is still being built and is not on a public address yet, this is your window onto it.

While the assistant works, the same preview shows the change taking shape: each step the assistant saves shows up in the panel within a few seconds. If a preview was already running when you started the edit, the edit simply appears in it; nothing restarts. There is a refresh button if you want to reload it by hand, a desktop/mobile toggle so you can check both layouts, and an open in a new tab button (the little arrow leaving a box) that opens the preview full size in its own browser tab while it is live.

The preview is yours to keep open or turn off. It does not disappear when the assistant finishes: it stays up so you can keep looking, and it carries a Stop button (the power icon in the panel header) for when you are done with it. Your business has one preview at a time, shared by everyone looking at the Editor. Left alone with the tab closed, a preview turns itself off within about fifteen minutes to save resources; starting it again takes a few seconds to boot.

Two honest notes about it:

The live preview runs at a temporary web address that is public but practically unguessable, the same way draft preview links work. It shows edits that are not published yet, so treat the address like any private link: do not post it anywhere.
It is a window, not the work. There are two "off" states, and they read differently. Preview stopped means you turned it off on purpose. The live preview is offline means it timed out or could not be reached. Either way nothing is lost: your edits live in the editing session, and the finished change still arrives as a draft with its own preview link. That draft link is always the exact thing Publish would make live.

Publish and Domain, always in reach

Two buttons sit at the top of the Editor wherever you are on the screen.

Publish stays there the whole time. Until you have a change ready it is greyed out, and hovering it tells you there is nothing to publish yet. The moment your assistant has a draft, it lights up: press it and the same publish controls (what changed, the checks, the preview link and the Publish button) open right there, so you never have to hunt for them.

Adding a photo to your website

You can give your assistant a picture to use. Paste an image straight into the message box (or drag one onto it, or use the image button next to it on a computer), then say where it should go:

"Use this photo as the picture on the home page." "Put this headshot on my About page."

A small thumbnail appears above the box so you can see what is attached, with a cross to remove it. You can attach up to three images with one message. Large photos are shrunk to a sensible web size before they are sent, so a full resolution phone photo is fine.

Your assistant sees the actual picture, saves it into your website, and writes proper alt text (the wording screen readers and search engines read) to describe it. As always, nothing goes live until you press Publish, so you get to look at the photo in place on the preview first.

A couple of notes:

Images only, and only real photo formats (PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF). Other files are ignored.
If you are not sure a photo suits a spot, ask. Your assistant will tell you what it sees and where it thinks it fits.

The draft, the preview and Publish

A draft is a proposed version of your site that nobody but you can see. The panel shows:

What changed: how many files, and how much was added or removed.
Checks: your site runs its own tests on every draft. They cover broken links, page descriptions, colour contrast and the Marketli footer attribution.
A preview link: a private copy of your website with the change in it. Click it and look at the real thing before you decide.

Then:

Publish to my website merges the change and your live site updates, usually within a couple of minutes.
Discard throws the draft away. Your website stays exactly as it is.

Publish only unlocks when the checks pass. If they fail, the button stays off and the panel says so. That is deliberate: your site's checks are what catch broken links, missing page descriptions and the like, and nothing publishes around them.

Asking for changes to the same draft

After the assistant finishes, you can keep going in the same conversation: "shorter", "keep the second sentence", "use my old wording for the first line". Each follow-up updates the same draft, and the preview refreshes when the checks finish again.

What it will not change

Almost everything on your site is yours to change through the Editor, including your disclosures, credit guide, privacy policy and complaints wording. When it edits regulated wording like that, the assistant will remind you to confirm the new text with your licensee before you publish.

A short list stays off limits, whatever you ask:

The "Powered by Marketli" attribution in your footer.
Your site's launch switch, the setting that makes a new site visible to search engines when it goes live.
The publishing machinery that checks and deploys your site.

Things worth knowing

Each edit has a spending limit. A long, complicated request can reach it and stop partway. If that happens the Editor tells you plainly, keeps what it finished, and you start a fresh edit to carry on. Asking for one thing at a time avoids it.

One edit at a time per business. If a colleague is already mid-edit, your request joins theirs rather than starting a second one.

You can leave and come back. Closing the tab or locking your phone does not stop the work. Open the Editor again and you will find it where you left it, including a draft waiting on your decision.

You can stop it. The Stop button ends the edit. If the stop does not reach the assistant for any reason, the Editor says so rather than showing you a tick.

Common questions

Can I break my live site? Not from here. Every change is a draft, every draft is checked, and Publish is the only thing that touches your live site.

What if the preview looks wrong? Ask for a follow-up change, or press Discard and start again. Nothing has reached your website either way.

Does this cost me anything per change? No. It is part of your website plan.

Can I still use ChatGPT or Claude Code on my repository? Yes. Nothing about the Editor closes that door, and changes made either way end up in the same place.
