Email campaigns
Write an email, send yourself a test, send it to your contacts, and find it again afterwards under Sent.
Email campaigns is where you write an email once and send it to many of your contacts. Each person gets their own copy, addressed to them, and nobody sees who else received it.
Email campaigns are part of the Ultimate marketing package. Before you can send, your business needs a verified sending domain and a verified reply-to address. You can write and save a campaign before either is ready.
Drafts and Sent
The Campaigns tab has two lists.
- Drafts are campaigns you are still writing. They save as you type. Choose Continue to carry on with one.
- Sent are campaigns that have gone out. Each one shows the date it was sent and how many people it went to, for example "Sent 13 Oct to 42 recipients".
A campaign moves from Drafts to Sent as soon as you send it. While it is still going out it sits at the top of Sent, marked Sending.
The number on a sent campaign is how many recipients the email went out to. Anyone skipped because they had unsubscribed, and any address that failed or bounced, is not counted. Sending history has the full breakdown, including opens and clicks.
If a send failed completely, and nothing went out, the campaign stays in Drafts marked Last send failed. You can fix what was wrong and send it again.
Both lists show 50 campaigns at a time. Choose Show more at the bottom of a list to see the next 50. Search looks through both lists.
A sent campaign cannot be changed
Once a campaign has been sent it is locked. You cannot edit it and you cannot send it a second time. This keeps what you see under Sent the same as what your contacts received, and it stops the same email going to the same people twice by accident.
Choose View on a sent campaign to see exactly what went out: the subject, who it was from, where replies go, and the email itself.
Use again
To send a campaign again, or to send a changed version, choose Use again. This makes a new draft with the same subject and the same content as the email that was sent. The new draft has not been sent to anyone, so you can edit it, choose who it goes to, and send it as a campaign of its own. The original stays under Sent, unchanged.
In Drafts, the copy button does the same thing for a campaign you have not sent yet.
Send a test to me
Before you send to your contacts, choose Send a test to me in the editor. Marketli emails the campaign to you, at the address you sign in with, and to nobody else.
- The subject starts with [Test] so you can tell it apart in your inbox.
- It looks the way your contacts will see it, with your signature and your business details underneath. Any merge fields, such as first name, are filled in with your own details.
- It does not count towards your daily sending allowance.
- The campaign stays a draft. You can keep editing and send as many tests as you need, within reason: there is a limit on how many tests you can send in a few minutes.
- The unsubscribe link in a test does nothing. When you send the campaign for real, each recipient gets a working link of their own.
A test needs a subject, a sending domain and a reply-to address, the same as a real send. It does not need any recipients chosen.
Choosing who gets it
Choosing who gets a campaign covers the recipient list, tags, who is skipped, and your daily limit.
Deleting a campaign
You can delete a campaign from either list. Deleting a sent campaign removes it from the list only. What was sent stays in Sending history.
